Rev. Al Sharpton, Spiritual Leader, Social, Political and Human Rights Activist. Born

Alfred Charles Sharpton, Jr. in Brooklyn, New York. A leading figure against prejudice and injustice, was Youth Director for SCLC's program "Operation Bread Basket"; the program's goal was to encourage diversity in the work place by applying social and economic pressure on businesses. A good tactic that can and should be used today.

Mr. Sharpton started his own organization "National Youth Movement" in the 1980's.

Ordained a minister in the Pentecostal Church at the age of 10, "Rev Al" now heads

the National Action Network, a leading civil rights organization with chapters across US.

The organizations criminal justice initiative focuses on the right to equal justice under the law, "the law should not be conditional or based upon a person's color or economic status. Janet Emerson Bashen, CEO of the Bashen Corporation is the first Black women to patent a software invention. Link Line, is a web based application for Equal Employment Opportunity claims intake and tracking document management, Claims management and numerous reports. Patent # 6,985,922. The "Method Apparatus and System for Processing Compliance Actions over a wide area." This is followed by Ms. Bashen's federal based counter part EEOFedsoft MD715, web based application for building Affirmative Action Plans

Ulysses "Junior" Bridgeman, An American retired NBA player is a successful entrepreneur of FastFood restaurants who has a reported net worth of $400 million. Born in Chicago, Ill. he owns 160 Wendy's franchises in America and 118 Chili's restaurants. Mr. Bridgeman also owns stake in Milwaukee soda's Black Bear Beverages, and sits on the board of the PGA. " Junior" called by most obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville. Drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in 1975, had a successful

12 year pro hoop career.

John W. Thompson, former Chairman for the Microsoft Corporation replacing Bill Gates. Born in New Jersey, his mother a school teacher and father a career soldier in the Army. A recipient of the Morgan Stanley Information Technology Award for Global Commerce, his focus is on professional management and professional leadership. Mr. Thompson believes that leadership is about creating something different that people get excited about, and then following thru. He considers Microsoft as "one of the true, iconic companies in our country." In the U.S. he is the only Black person to hold a chairman position in a major tech company.

The Divided Mind of The Black Church: By Raphael G. Warnock, Congressman

Cynthia Day is President, Chief Executive Officer, and Board Member of Citizens Baneshare Corporation and Citizens Trust Bank. She is also a member of the National Bankers Association, The Atlanta Business League, the Georgia Society of CPA"s., Board of Directors for Aaron, Inc. and a former manager for KPMG.. Ms. Day is a graduate of the University of Alabama.

Citizens Trust Bank opened on August 16, 1921 in Atlanta, Georgia. It was established and lead by five Black  Businessmen; Herman E. Perry, James A. Robinson, Thomas J. Freguson, W.H. King and H.C. Dugas. They were called "the fervent five".

The goals of the bank were to promote financial stability, make home ownership possible to more people especially the Black community,  business development, and the principals of thrift. Citizen Trust Bank under the leadership of Ms. Day is still a leader in these areas today. "We continue to build on the legacy."

​​Xernona Clayton, still fine at 91 years old! I had to put that in there, but it is true. We were at an awards ceremony and I was presenting her with a Humanitarian Award from the Entrepreneurship Hall of Fame ; when I introduced her I said "when we met and spent time together she was like my mother or grandmother": when she took the stage she turned and said to me "James, mother or grandmother I thought, you thought I was fine and sexy", Everyone fell out laughing. She always has a sense of humor. Anyway Ms. Clayton is the first Black women to have a prime time television show in the south at Turner Broadcasting Co. (Ted Turner)  where she worked for over 30 years. An advocate for race relations, author, CEO of the Trumpet Awards & Foundation; also has a street named in her honor in downtown Atlanta, Ga.

Extra Special Thanks To Brazil

Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCU"s): Formed to  specifically to educate Black Americans. Also a look at Chicago's Urban Prep; a great model that should be adopted nationally.

The Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended defines HBCU's as "any historically Black College or University that was established prior to 1964 whose principal mission was and is the education of Black Americans and that is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting  agency or association making reasonable progress towards accreditation."

Only The White House Initiative determines which colleges and universities are HBSU's.

Currently there are 101. Black Americans need to support HBCU's. We need to encourage, and  guide our children to attend them for higher education. We as a  people have to start controlling as much as possible what are children are being taught. I had Miranda McKenzie, Administrator for the United Negro College Fund (UNCF) on last season and we talked about how crucial it was for our children to attend HBCU's. Truth and guidance is needed more now than ever. I'll get her back on JMS maybe on a regular basis to give tips on financing your education, best careers etc. We also talked about some of the great Black Americans that have graduated from HBSU's with extremely successful careers. We will discuss this further coming up in JMS new season.

Urban Prep (Below). graduated 100 percent of its students and placed them in colleges and universities.

Congratulations to administrators, faculty, and students for a great job. Now lets take this model and use it!

Cordy Tindell Vivian known to friends and associates as just "CT". Mr. Vivian was a close friend and confidant to Martin Luther King, Jr. and worked closely under his wing in the Civil Rights Movement.

A Minister, Author, and Businessman; he was also founder of The C.T. Vivian Leadership Institute. To me Mr. CT as I called him was a very intelligent and compassionate man and I enjoyed are conversations....always inspiring! An honorable man and an example of excellence and tenacity as he strived to uplift Black Americans in particular. Born in1924 Mr. Vivian died July 17, 2020 amidst the Covid-19 epidemic . Continue to RIP, but you are missed by so many, including me! 

Taraji P. Henson Actress, Singer, also promotes mental health awareness. Taraji studied acting at Howard Univ. Born September 11, 1970 she has stared in to many projects to mention here, but a few are Hustle and Flow, Baby Boy, Think Like a Man, and currently TV shows Empire and Person of Interest. She has won a Critics Choice Award, Golden Globe Award, and nominated for an Emmy. Oscar is coming when you get the right script! Much continued success to the most down to earth woman in Hollywood! Homegirl you know how we do do it.... keep it real 100!

Michelle Bernard: Center for Women Politics and Public Policy

First let me give a shout out to my home girl and the former Councilwoman of Ward 4; I'm from Ward 1. "What's Up?" Congratulations; you are exactly what we need in DC. Muriel Bowser brings a "hands on"  now approach to leadership, legislation, and policy making. Formally Chairwoman of the Committee on Economic Affairs  was recently selected by her colleagues to be Chairwoman of Economic Development. Under her leadership more small businesses have been opened and housing development has increased. Muriel has won The Phyllis Campbell Newsome Public Policy Award, The Idealist of the Year Award and backed by The Washington Post. Mayor Bowser holds a Master's degree in Public Policy. ​Cassius Butts, Former Region IV Director for The Small Business Administration

Cassius Butts was appointed by President Barack Obama in 2011. He is responsible for the delivery of SBA programs in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee. During his appointment, Cassius has managed oversight of three record breaking years for SBA lending in Region IV. Nearly $12 billion in SBA-backed loans were awarded to small businesses within the aforementioned eight states. Prior to joining SBA, Cassius was employed with the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) where he began his federal career as a Presidential Management Fellow/ Branch Chief in 2002. It was at HUD where he assisted and advised the scoring committee on the newly established Multi-Million Procurement Contract. Since 1992, Cassius has worked in leadership positions for Bank of America, Fleet Bank and the City of Atlanta. As a small business owner, he co- founded CB Consulting Group, LLC, which primarily offered entrepreneurial, strategy and community engagement services.

SunTrust Bank CMO Susan Johnson was recently named one of the top 50 most powerful women in corporate America by Black Enterprise Magazine. She was selected from the top 1,000 publicly traded United States companies.

Johnson serves as an overseer of SunTrust's brand strategy, communications, marketing operations, and is a member of the executive leadership team.

Johnson holds a bachelor's degree in Engineering Sciences from Harvard University and an MBA in Finance from Wharton School.

Susan says,"While  I am proud of my career accomplishments, more importantly, I hope to serve as a role model for other young African American women in corporate America to follow their aspirations and make an impact in their communities."

President Barak Obama has appointed more women to the courts than any other president in the history of The United States.

Chief Judge Patricia E. Campbell-Smith was appointed to the US Court of Appeals. The President said in a statement from the White House that he is proud of Campbell-Smith's designation, "She has a long and distinguished record of service. I am confident she will serve with distinction." Honorable Judge Smith was appointed Judge of US Court of Federal Claims September 19, 2013 and on October 21 President Obama designated her to serve as Chief Judge.

Lonnie G. Johnson, Scientist, Engineer, and Entrepreneur

A  few months ago I went over to Lonnie Johnson's laboratory in downtown Atlanta, Ga.. and I was completely blown away! The man is a genius. I was given a personal tour by Bart Suddereth, Director of the Robotics Operation. Johnson won first prize  for his 3 foot robot  named Linex in a statewide Alabama science competition while in high school. With a  Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Masters in Nuclear Engineering  he went on to serve in The United States Air Force and worked at NASA.. Johnson has received contracts from the United  States Department of Energy and Department of Defense. His "Super Soaker " water gun was the #1 selling toy in the United States for two consecutive years. Lonnie's current projects include the Lithium Air Battery and the (Johnson Thermo Electrochemical Converter) system. Lonnie Johnson is also concerned about exposing disadvantage Black youth in the inner city to science and engineering, so you know that was right up my alley.

​​We need to tell are own stories and support films that have already been produced by Black Americans. Also push for more employment by the industry.  I recently went on a couple of movie sets and everyone behind the scenes was White! What's up? Only a few Black actors are being employed as well. We could always boycott and everybody go to Magic Johnson Theatres and only watch movies on Bounce, Aspire, BET, and TV One, but Hollywood is starting to hire more Black actors and crew. That said, we still to have our own; awards show too!

​Banking Black:There are currently 21 Black owned banks in the United States with total assets of a reported

$5 Billion Dollars. Put some of your money in a Black Bank and hold them accountable to support your interests.

Industrial Bank of Washington, D.C., Capital City  Bank & Trust Company and Citizens Trust of Atlanta, Ga. just to names a few. as I stated earlier Black Americans spent $1.2 Trillion Dollars last year and if we just pooled one quarter of that into Black banks we could get them to fund loans to Black businesses in the community and create more jobs particularly, in technology and invest in global merging markets. A win, win situation. You know, get a piece of that import / export money. Don't just let the Chinese  and others exploit Africa and take all the natural resources for their people and leave ours suffering , poor, and broke. Black Americans can have a worldwide impact for our people. I'll be coming back with a full report . Stay tuned. Calvin Vismale and I are working on it now.

Gentrification over the past 13 years has displaced thousands of lower-income Black Americans in urban neighborhoods with upper-income White residents according to a study from the National Community Reinvestment Coalition. The Washington Post reports 1,000 neighborhoods in 935 cities and towns across the country were affected. Soaring property values, increased taxes, and high rent spikes forced Blacks to move out. Washington, D.C. my hometown which used to be called "Chocolate City" is now vanilla as it tops the list of gentrified cities. Over the past 5 years alone tens of thousands migrated to DC. Infrastructure has been altered, public property has been privatized, the will of Black voters has been rescinded, and Black owned businesses have been shattered. Richmond, Va., Charlottesville,Va, and New Orleans round out the top 4, followed by New York City, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Baltimore, San Diego, and Chicago. I'm not sure what all of this means, but something is going on that's not good for the future of Black America. Time to wake up!

Rev. Raphael  Warnock  is Pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Ga.  "Spiritual  Home  of The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  He is one of the youngest Pastors to be called by Ebenezer and is the son of two Pentecostal Pastors. Rev.  Dr. Warnock graduated from Morehouse College and holds a Masters of Divinity (M.Div.) degree & Doctorate of Philosohy in systemic theology from Union Theological  Seminary in New York City.

Thomas W. Dortch, Jr., is Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of TWD, Inc. In 1990, he became the State Director and served as Chief Administrator for United States Senator, Sam Nunn. Mr. Dortch was the first African-American to serve in this capacity.  Some of Mr. Dortch’s other accomplishments include: President of South West Investment Group (SWIG), Chief Executive Officer of Atlanta Transportation Systems, Inc., Chairman and CEO of Cornerstone Parking, Chairman of Lancor Parking Management, LLC, Managing Partner of FAD Consulting, LLC, establishing the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc., co-founding the Georgia Association of Minority Entrepreneurs (GAME) to fill a void as an advocacy organization for minority business development, and co-founding the Greater Atlanta Economic Alliance as a capacity building and business development organization for the construction and transportation industries.

 A former head of The 100 Black Men of Atlanta he still is active on the board and in the Atlanta ​community. Rest In Peace My Brother.

Acknowledged by President Barack Obama as a National Emerging Leader, Christopher M. Chestnut, Esq. is America’s next great voice for legal justice. Chestnut, a Florida native and graduate of Florida State and University of Florida’s Levine School of Law, served on the Florida finance team for then presidential candidate Obama, which helped lead to a convincing victory in the battleground state.   

One of the most accomplished young attorneys in the country, Chestnut founded Chestnut Law Firm, LLC, based in Gainesville, FL  and Atlanta, GA with the motto “Pursuing Justice…Because You Deserve It.” Simply stated by Chestnut, “We help the people who need help the most.” Under his leadership, the firm has participated in multi-million dollar civil trials alongside his mentor, famed civil litigator Willie Gary; won millions of dollars in settlements for their clients; and successfully argued an $800 million dollar class action settlement against Big Tobacco.   

Chestnut is a proven leader, having served as the National Chairman for the National Black Law Students Association while in school, and being consistently tapped by church leaders, activists, and other community leaders when legal injustice occurs.

No one has been beyond high school so Project Success which is our flag ship program really caters to opening doors for young people.
